Know What is Behind to Move Forward..

The first picture shows the "Door of Return" in Cape Coast, Ghana, West Africa. This door is the door of a castle that was used during the slave trade. On the other side of this door there is a plaque which reads the "The Door of No Return". For the slaves that were taken out of this castle and put on waiting ships it marked a journey they will not return from. In July 2009, when President Barack Obama visited the castle on his first official visit to Ghana he passed through this door and then back into the castle. It was then renamed the "Door of Return".

In 2019, 400 years after the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in Jamestown, Virginia, the country of Ghana celebrated the Year of Return in which all members of the African diaspora were welcomed through the "Door of Return". #yearofreturn
